Gateway CDC 1979 to Present

The Gateway Community Development Corporation (CDC), established in 1979, has been a driving force for economic and community development in Vance, Warren, Franklin, and Granville counties, North Carolina. Over the past decades, Gateway CDC has been championing the growth of local entrepreneurs and small businesses while also making significant contributions to housing development.

Originally known as The Assembly of Vance, the organization has undergone a transformative journey. Its consistent advocacy for small businesses and entrepreneurs resulted in the establishment of the Small Business Development Program in 2021. This program, backed by a strong support network including Truist, PNC, and the USDA, has already supported over 100 entrepreneurs. Gateway CDC has also awarded over $75,000 in grants, demonstrating a strong commitment to community growth and economic revitalization.

Two of Gateway CDC's key programs include The Henderson Vision, sponsored by the Duke Energy Foundation, and the Way to GROW! initiative, funded by NC IDEA. These programs focus on downtown business enhancement and equipping entrepreneurs with the necessary resources and skills to grow their businesses, respectively.

Beyond these initiatives, Gateway CDC has provided over $100,000 worth of critical services such as branding, marketing, credit repair, establishment assistance, business planning, and development services. With additional support from USDA-funded Small Business and Entrepreneur Development Program, the organization ensures that local entrepreneurs receive comprehensive technical support.

Gateway CDC also maintains a strong commitment to housing development, having built over 50 affordable homes since constructing their first house in Henderson in 1990. They have also provided homeownership counseling to over 300 citizens, reinforcing their dedication to addressing community housing needs.

As it continues to secure additional grants and funding, Gateway CDC remains committed to fostering a thriving entrepreneurial hub and supporting affordable housing development. With the support of esteemed institutions such as Truist, PNC, and the USDA, the organization continues to transform Henderson into an area of boundless opportunity for small business owners, entrepreneurs, and residents.

Gateway CDC's work reflects an enduring dedication to community change, economic development, and improving living conditions in the region. Carrying forward a legacy of over 40 years of dedicated service, the organization stands as a testament to the power of community development and the positive impact of supporting local entrepreneurship and housing initiatives.
